Meet Phoebe Mason:

Hi there! My name is Phoebe Ann and I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, where the arts scene was an integral part of my upbringing and development. I first began to show interest in photography in the seventh grade, when I joined my middle school’s photography club. From there I continued to show an expansive interest in the arts, never wanting to focus on just one medium. In high school I began experimenting with sketching, painting, graphic design, sculpture and textiles. Fast forward to my second year at Howard University, and I declared my minor in photography with the intention of strengthening the skill that sparked my initial interest in the arts as a whole. It is my goal to incorporate my love for artistic expression into my future career, whatever that may be.

Currently, I am in my last semester of my final year at Howard. My artistic focus remains on photography, but has also expanded to heavily include textile work such as embroidery, crochet, and sewing. I’ve noticed that my creative process doesn’t utilize a lot of planning, especially in photography. Without an assignment, I will simply carry my camera around and capture what I feel called to. My subject matter tends to be people and those “every-day” things that encapsulate the human experience. I believe my work reflects this experience and the many different ways that humans have, can, and will live life.
