Meet Maxine Nodel

She/Her · Westchester, NY · Drawing/Illustration · Accepts Commissions? Yes

  • Since I was a child, I've always created design-based drawings by intuitively incorporating patterns found in nature and imagination. Today, I continue to combine nature-based patterns and textures, such as elements of the Fibonacci spiral/sequence, etc. with traditional aesthetics to create visual metaphors and poetry. The design elements in my work are symbolic underpinnings that depict how everything in the universe is divinely connected.

I work primarily in graphite, ink, color pencils, and pastel on smooth Bristol plate paper with subject matter that includes the human form, nature, items from antiquity, and everyday objects. I juxtapose these literal elements with metamorphic design to create surrealistic and poetic narratives.

  • What got you interested in art? Art runs in my blood and in my family.

How long have you been creating art? Since I was 2 years old.

What is your medium of choice? Graphite/Ink

What piece of art made you say: “Art is for me?”:
    ”Joan of Arc by Bastien-Lepage”
